Royal Ascot 2019 Day 5 Tips

| 21.06.2019
CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Day 5 of Royal Ascot is normally the day with the biggest crowds and the most relaxed atmosphere. Must be something to do with it being the weekend!

Now that the Ascot Gold Cup is over, the highlight of the day is definitely the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. With £600,000 up for grabs, the race boasts one of the largest purses at the Royal Meeting. At 6 furlongs, it is also part of the trend towards shorter races on the final day. Four of the 6 contests on Day 5 are under a mile in length.

If you don’t want to spend your Saturday sweating over a racecard, we’re here to help. Here are our Royal Ascot tips for Day 5! We’ve got odds on all the races in the Royal Ascot, so check out the latest Royal Ascot 2019 betting odds on our Sportsbook and if you’re looking for tips for any of the other races of the festival, check out our Day 1, Day 2, Ladies Day, Ascot Gold Cup, and Day 4 previews.

2:30pm The Chesham Stakes

Group: Listed

Age: 2

Prize: £90,000

Distance: 7 furlongs

Our tip: Pinatubo (currently 11/4)

At 5/4, the bookies have Lope Y Fernandez marked as the clear favourite but Pinatubo has won 2 races and if conditions suit, could do well again. The Chesham Stakes traditionally is a good race for those without a lot of experience. All of the last 16 winners have had no more than 2 career runs.

3:05pm The Jersey Stakes

Group: 3

Age: 3

Prize: £90,000

Distance: 7 furlongs

Our tip: Space Blues (currently 3/1)

Out of the last 17 winners at The Jersey Stakes, 16 had at least 1 run that season, which is good news for Space Blues who is currently on a hot streak, having won 7-furlong races at York and Epsom in May. Trainer Charlie Appleby is no slouch and must think Space Blues is ready to perform on a bigger stage.

3:40pm The Hardwicke Stakes

Age: 4+

Prize: £225,000

Distance: 1 mile 4 furlongs

Our tip: Southern France (currently 5/1)

Southern France is trained by distance expert Aiden O’Brien and could enjoy the 1 mile 4-furlong distance. Of the last 16 winners, 14 placed in their last race which bodes well for Southern France who came second to Stradivarius at York last time out.

4:20pm The Diamond Jubilee Stakes

Group: 1

Age: 4+

Prize: £600,000

Distance: 6 furlongs

Our tip: Sands of Mali (currently 14/1)

This is one of the major events on the short-distance calendar, and the clear favourite is Invincible Army at 7/2.

Sands of Mali has a great record at Ascot and could cause an upset. The Richard Fahey horse won a 6-furlong race there in October and came in second in last year’s Commonwealth Cup. Another reason to suspect our pick could pip the favourite at the post is the result of a race both horses ran at Haydock in May 2018. Sands of Mali beat Invincible Army to first place by a nose.

5:00pm The Wokingham Stakes

Group: Heritage Handicap

Age: 3+

Prize: £175,000

Distance: 6 furlongs

Our tip: Gifted Master (currently 25/1)

The Wokingham is a notoriously difficult race for picking winners. Even experienced race fans will struggle to choose from among this big field of runners. Gifted Master won a 6-furlong handicap at Goodwood last August and we think that experience will make the difference. Still, Gifted Master has not won any of his races since and came in eighth in a field of 10 at Newmarket in May. There’s no easy pick for this race, though. Even the favourite, Danzeno, is getting 10/1 odds.

5:35pm The Queen Alexandra Stakes

Group: Conditions

Age: 3+

Prize: £90,000

Distance: 2 miles 6 furlongs

Our tip: Pallasator (currently 10/1)

The last race of Royal Ascot is also the longest at 2 miles 6 furlongs. For this gruelling marathon, we’ve tipped last year’s winner, Pallasator. The 10-year-old has run in only 2 races since then, and not performed particularly well in either. Those were much shorter races at 1 mile 6 furlongs each, however, and we think this Gordon Elliot-trained horse could have 1 more long race run in him yet.
