Shearer says: “Teams will now look at Man City and see a weakness in their back four”

Coral’s John Hill sat down with football ambassador Alan Shearer to exclusively discuss how Manchester City can bounce back from their first defeat of the season. They next face a tough Premier League task against Ronald Koeman’s Everton.

You can listen Shearer’s Man City v Everton thoughts in the video below, but we’ve also picked out the best quotes from this latest interview…

“Everton will feel no different about Man City’s defensive weakness”

When asked how he thinks the Sky Blues will bounce back from their first defeat under Pep Guardiola, Shearer said: “They’ll have to play better defensively certainly.

“Teams will now look at Man City and see a weakness in their back four, conceding three against Celtic, conceding against Tottenham and Tottenham also missed a penalty.

“So teams will look at that weakness and think they can get at them and score goals and Everton will feel no different.”

Moving onto the issue of fixture congestion for the Etihad outfit, Shearer added: “He [Guardiola] won’t get any sympathy from other managers with the money he’s spent and the number of players he has and that’s where he will use his squad to change it around.

“Whether that’s through form or whether that’s through injury, whether that’s just leaving players out to rest, he’ll have to do that in the coming weeks because of the heavy fixture list they’ve got.”

“Everton will fancy their chances to go there and score a goal or two”

“Ronald Koeman has done a magnificent job at Everton,” Shearer said when asked about the new Toffees boss.

Shearer has praised Koeman for Everton's improvement this term.

Shearer has praised Koeman for Everton’s improvement this term.

“He’s got them sat in fifth position at he minute, certainly tighten them up at defensively, so they will fancy their chances to go there and score a goal or two.

“They’re playing a brand of football that their fans like, he seems to have a happy camp there. I think with the problems they had defensively last season, he’s certainly tighten up at the back and they’ve had a very good start to the season.”
