CORAL ENHANCED ACCAS

Coral ambassador Jim Crowley looks ahead to a busy season of flat racing

I’m really looking forward to the new flat season.

I have some nice horses. We retired a few good ones this year, the likes of Mohaather and Nazeef have gone to stud. Battaash is unlikely to make Royal Ascot, but hopefully he’ll be ready for Goodwood.

We have plenty of nice horses who ran and won good races last year. Hukum, who ran in the St Leger, is a horse I’m looking forward to riding. Hopefully he can make up into a top mile and a half horse. We have plenty of ammunition.

I went into Marcus Tregoning’s yard recently to ride Alkumait who won the Mill Reef last year. I’ve been down to ride at Owen Burrows and Charlie Hills. I’m at Newmarket this week so will put in a bit of ground-work at our Newmarket yards.

I really enjoy getting round the yards at this time of year, as you get some nice surprises seeing how horses have developed and improved over the winter. It can work the opposite way too, and a few bubbles can be popped, but it’s an exciting time of year.

I think we have a great crop of horses this year, and it’s just such a shame that the Boss (Sheikh Hamdan) won’t be around to see them.

Jim Crowley

Jim Crowley began his flat racing career as an amateur before switching to National Hunt racing, where he landed approximately 300 winners. He then returned to the flat to ride for sister-in-law Amanda Perrett. After years of hard work, Jim was finally rewarded when we won the 2016 Stobart Flat Jockey Championship with an incredible 148 winners. That was followed by a lucrative retained partnership with leading owner Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum, for whom he is the no.1 jockey. Now, the reigning Champion Jockey gives you an exclusive insight into all of his big rides for the 2017 season, courtesy of Coral.
