Jim Crowley: “Motakhayyel is my best chance of an Ascot winner”

Coral ambassador previews his Saturday rides at Ascot and Salisbury Ascot 13.50 I start a busy day on Good Vibes in the Princess Margaret Stakes, and I think she’s got a really good chance, although Summer Romance looks the one to beat. My filly won a decent race at York in May, and has been kept fresh since then. As a result she almost comes here under the radar a bit, and she looks a really nice... more...

Coral ambassador previews his Saturday rides 2.25 Newbury – Reshoun He is a nice horse who is owned by a good friend of mine. I have won him twice before, the latest being at Haydock at the back end of last year. It is a competitive race this so we are not without a chance. My horses likes soft ground so if there is any rain around, it will help him. He is stepping back up in trip. I didn’t... Vie... more...

Jim Crowley: I’m really looking forward to riding Faylaq

| 12.07.2019

Coral ambassador previews his Saturday rides I’ve got a busy Saturday to look forward to, with six rides at Ascot followed by three at Salisbury in the evening, which is just how I want it to be at this stage of the season. Ascot 13.45 I had a decision to make between Muthmir and Moyassar in the first. Muthmir is an old favourite, who has run some super races over the years, and it wasn’t easy to ... more...

1.50 Sandown, The Coral Charge:  Muthmir Muthmir was second in the race last year but he’s nine year old so he’s getting on a bit. He was fifth in the Epsom Dash last time where he ran very well. He’s a hold up horse and needs a bit of luck in running. I think he’ll run very well but he does like finishing second. Let’s hope he likes finishing first in this race. It’s a good race. Garrus is t... more...

Jim Crowley: “I’m sure Rakan could run a big race”

Coral ambassador previews his ride in the Irish Derby Irish Derby (5.20 Curragh) – Rakan It is my first ride in the Irish Derby. I have ridden in some of the other Irish Classics, including the Irish Oaks at the Curragh. This will actually be my first ride for Dermot Weld too and I am really looking forward to it. There are some good horses in the race. Anthony Van Dyck is the market favourite but... more...

Jim Crowley “I wouldn’t swap Bacchus for any other horse in the race”

4.20 Royal Ascot – Yafta This is a big ask for Yafta. He’s a talented horse and I could see him running well. He might be able to grab a place but he’d have to post a huge number to win. He has a good draw and will be able to follow some nice horses into the race. He won’t mind a bit of give and he stays 6 furlongs extremely well. In fact we think he wants 7 furlongs.... Jim Crowley “Corgi is one of my best rides of the week”

3.40 Royal Ascot – Jash I’ve decided to ride Jash rather than Khaadem but it was a difficult decision as I know that Khaadem is a talented horse and I know that he will love the ground. Jash is a Group 1 horse. He was second in the Middle Park and he’s run over seven furlongs which I think is a massive plus at Ascot, as you really need to stay the trip. His form has worked out re... more...

Jim Crowley “I’m hoping for a big run from Motafaawit”

3.05 Royal Ascot – Great Scot   I’ve not ridden Great Scot before, but he’s got some decent form to his name, and certainly won’t mind the soft ground.  If he improves for the step up in trip he could have an each-way chance.   4.20 Royal Ascot – Magic Circle   It’s great to have picked up the ride on Magic Circle in the Gold Cup.  He’s won a Chester Cup in the... more...

Jim Crowley “Afaak has a great chance in the Royal Hunt Cup”

3.40 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes – Desert Encounter   I’ve picked up a nice spare on Desert Encounter, in what promises to be one of the races of the week.  He is a Group One winner, in last year’s Canadian International, this is over two furlongs shorter, but he’s a hold up horse so hopefully he might be able to pick up the pieces and pick up some prize money, although this is a big ... more...

Jim Crowley “I think Battaash will win the King’s Stand”

Royal Ascot Day One There’s no doubt the opening day of this year’s Royal meeting is a massive one for me, with three well-fancied rides for the boss, Sheikh Hamdan, and a live outsider in the Ascot Stakes.  For us flat jockeys this meeting is like the Cheltenham Festival is for the jumping lads, it’s hard enough to get one winner on the board, and if you’re lucky enough to do that at the sta... more...
