Tom Scudamore: “I really fancy him on his return to fences”
Coral ambassador previews Saturday’s rides
14.40 Haydock – Champers On Ice
He is back over fences after schooling well. I really fancy him. He won over hurdles at the Ladbrokes Trophy meeting, while he was third at Cheltenham last time out.
He has never quite achieved what we thought he would over fences. The way he has been jumping back home, he seems a lot better now than he has done for the last two years.
The one rather major negative is that the handicapper has handicapped him on his best hurdles form. He wasn’t able to win off this mark over hurdles and he is yet to prove he is as good over fences.
I always felt he would make a better chaser than hurdler. Although he has won over fences, it has never worked out for him. He is in a good place at the moment so I think he is going to run a massive race.
15.45 Haydock – Go Long
I was third on him last year over this course and distance where we finished very close behind Breland D’As from Paul Nicholls’ yard. His form this season has been disappointing so I assume he is a difficult horse to train.
If he can return back to his best though, he will be running from a mark that he may be able to take advantage of.
