3 reasons Manchester United should sign Fabinho
Brazilian could be on the move
Monaco midfielder Fabinho could spark a transfer scramble after admitting he expects this to be his last season at the Ligue 1 club.
The Brazil international will be in high demand after his superb displays in Monaco’s Ligue 1 triumph last season.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder. But they could face competition from the likes of Paris Saint-German and Atletico Madrid.
The Coral News Team have looked at three reasons why United should look to tie up a deal for Fabinho sooner rather than later.
Fabinho is superb at winning possession and his athleticism allows him to get around the pitch quickly. A midfield trio featuring the 24-year-old, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic would be a fearsome prospect for opposition sides.
Matic could sit deep and sweep up any danger, with Fabinho pressing to win possession back higher up. With those two shielding the backline, Pogba would be free to make the most of his attacking talents.
As well as being an elite midfielder, Fabinho is also capable of operating at right-back.
Antonio Valencia has done exceptionally well on the right side of defence since being converted from a winger. However, he’s now 32-years-old and Jose Mourinho doesn’t seem to be convinced by any of the alternatives in his squad.
Fabinho would be able to cover at right-back if necessary, providing pace, defensive awareness and technical quality in wide areas.
United look fairly well stocked in central midfield at present but it could be a different story in the summer.
Marouane Fellaini’s contract expires at the end of the season. Jose Mourinho wants him to stay but he can negotiate a free transfer with foreign clubs in January.
Michael Carrick is also out of contract. The club captain has barely featured this year and could move into a coaching role.
Fabinho would immediately push for a starting place if he moved to Old Trafford. But he’d also give Jose Mourinho much-needed options in a vital area.
