Euro 2020 top goalscorer tips: Contenders for the Golden Boot
Preview and odds for the Golden Boot market
Many of the top strikers in the world will be on show at the European Championship and there will be an intense battle to top the goal chart.
Here we assess the chances of some of the leading contenders and some dark horses in our Euro 2020 top goalscorer tips.
The England striker won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup with six goals and is the 11/2 favourite to repeat that achievement at Euro 2020.
His goal against Leicester on the last day of the domestic season also saw him win the Premier League prize once again and England having home advantage at the tournament should also boost his chances.
Kane scored 12 goals in qualifying and as England’s penalty taker he has every chance of being the top scorer once more.
Lukaku is another striker heading into Euro 2020 in fine form after scoring 24 goals in Serie A as Inter Milan ended the dominance of Juventus by clinching the title.
The former Manchester United man netted seven goals in qualifying and has scored more than 50 goals for his country as he closes in on a century of appearances.
With Kevin De Bruyne supplying him, Lukaku will attract plenty of interest at 13/2 in the Euro 2020 top goalscorer odds.
Mbappe was one of the stars of the 2018 World Cup as his four goals helped France lift the trophy in Russia and he will be one of the most feared marksmen at the European Championship.
The pace of the PSG forward makes him a handful for any defence and opponents cannot just look to contain the 22-year-old given he has Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann for company in attack.
Mbappe is 8/1 to be the top goalscorer but facing Portugal and Germany in the group stage could work against him.
Little more needs to be said about a player who has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or five times.
Now aged 36, the 12-month delay to the tournament will not have done him any favours and this could be his last major international tournament.
He is not done yet, though, having topped the Serie A goal charts this season with 29 for Juventus and he scored half of Portugal’s goals in qualifying. Ronaldo is 12/1 to be top scorer at Euro 2020.
Werner was widely regarded as one of the hottest strikers in Europe last summer when Euro 2020 should have been staged due to his form for RB Leipzig.
But his first season in English football has been a struggle and the Chelsea striker has often looked short of confidence despite the Blues finishing in the top four and reaching the Champions League final.
Linking up with the national team could be the perfect opportunity for him to get back on track and odds of 25/1 will look a big price if he rediscovers his best form.
The Poland striker has taken his goal-scoring achievements to new heights this season with 41 league strikes for Bayern Munich, breaking Gerd Muller’s 49-year-old Bundesliga record.
The challenge now is to do it on the international stage, having scored just one goal at each of the last two European Championships and none at the 2018 World Cup.
At the time of writing, he has 66 goals for Poland at more than a goal every two games so his talent is not in doubt.
The Poles may not get to the latter end of the tournament but Lewandowski, who can be backed at 25/1, could make a flying start against Slovakia in a group which also contains Spain and Sweden.
