Luxembourg v Scotland betting tips: Scots seek to maintain momentum

Preview and odds for Sunday’s match

Scotland went close to beating the Netherlands earlier in the week and will hope to get the win this time when they face Luxembourg.

The performance in a 2-2 draw against the Dutch should give them plenty of confidence heading into their final warm-up game ahead of Euro 2020.

Sunday’s match is live on Sky Sports and kicks off at 5pm as we highlight a few potential Luxembourg v Scotland betting tips.

Luxembourg v Scotland match odds

Luxembourg are minnows in terms of population but have shown they are no mugs recently and only went down 1-0 in Norway on Wednesday when Erling Braut Haaland broke the deadlock in injury time.

They stunned the Republic of Ireland with victory in Dublin in their opening World Cup qualifier and did well to finish second in their Nations League group.

Gerson Rodrigues, Luxembourg

They even took the lead against Portugal in March and were level at half-time before being beaten 3-1 so there may be some interest in 9/2 for a home win or 5/4 for Luxembourg to avoid defeat.

The Red Lions are 2/1 to score the first goal but Scotland are building some momentum ahead of Euro 2020.

The 2-2 draw with the Netherlands extended their unbeaten run to four matches and could have been even better if Memphis Depay had not equalised with a minute remaining.

A Scotland win can be backed at 8/13 but they are without a clean sheet on their travels since a 2-0 victory in San Marino in March 2019, so both teams to score is an option at 10/11 while a Scotland win and goals at both ends is 13/5.

Luxembourg v Scotland head-to-head

This is only the second meeting between these two teams, with the previous one also taking place in Luxembourg in November 2012.

On that occasion Jordan Rhodes hit a first-half double as an attack-minded Scotland side began life after Craig Levein with a 2-1 victory in a friendly.

Rhodes headed home from close range on 10 minutes and then slotted a simple second but Scotland failed to build on their lead and survived some nervous moments after Lars Gerson’s well-placed free-kick brought Luxembourg back into the game 90 seconds after the break.

Another 2-1 win for Scotland this weekend is priced at 7/1.

Previous XI

Luxembourg vs Scotland - Football tactics and formations
Luxembourg: Moris, Mahmutovic, Carlson, Pinto, Jans, C Martins, M Martins, Sinani, Rodrigues, Thill, Deville.

Scotland: Gordon, Robertson, Tierney, Cooper, Hendry, McGregor, Christie, Armstrong, Turnbull, Forrest, Dykes.

Key battles

Scotland boss Steve Clarke could ring the changes after adopting a cautious approach to the Netherlands game.

David Marshall, Stephen O’Donnell, Nathan Patterson, Grant Hanley, John McGinn and Che Adams were all left out of the squad due to John Fleck’s positive coronavirus test so will all be keen to impress if selected.

Adams is the 10/3 favourite to open the scoring while McGinn is 21/10 in the anytime goalscorer odds.
