Preview and odds for the Group E match

Spain are yet to win a match at Euro 2020 but go into their third game in Seville against Slovakia knowing victory could be enough to win Group E.

Two draws so far mean they start the day in third place while Slovakia are second after picking up three points, meaning both teams have qualification in their own hands.

Wednesday’s match is live on ITV and kicks off at 5pm as we highlight a few potential Slovakia v Spain betting tips.

Slovakia v Spain match odds

Spain are 9/1 in the Euro 2020 winner odds and remain favourites to win Group E at 4/5 but a place in the last 16 is not yet guaranteed heading into the last round of fixtures.

Luis Enrique’s men could only manage a 0-0 draw with Sweden in their opening match and then had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Poland when they were again left to rue missed chances.

Spain went ahead in the 25th minute through Alvaro Morata after his close-range effort had initially been ruled out for offside before being overturned by VAR.

Poland responded and were deservedly level early in the second half when Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski headed in at the back post.

There was, though, more drama to come when Spain were awarded a penalty, only for Gerard Moreno to hit the post with his spot-kick and Morata then knocked the rebound wide.

Slovakia failed to build on their opening win against Poland and lacked ambition in a 1-0 defeat against Sweden, meaning they are now 15/8 to qualify and 9/4 to finish bottom of the group.

Spain are 2/9 to get the win they need but will need to be more clinical if they are to reach the latter stages of the tournament, with victory and over 2.5 goals available at 4/5.

Slovakia are 14/1 underdogs but a draw will be enough for them to finish in the top two if Poland fail to beat Sweden. A draw in Seville is priced at 11/2 while Slovakia are 7/2 to avoid defeat.

Slovakia v Spain head-to-head

Spain and Slovakia have met on six previous occasions and La Roja have come out on top four times.

The most recent meetings were in qualifying for the 2016 Euros when Slovenia secured a famous 2-1 win in Zilina to end Spain’s 37-match unbeaten run in World Cup and European Championship qualifiers.

Spain gained revenge 11 months later with a 2-0 win in Oviedo while current coach Enrique was a goalscorer in a 4-1 victory in the first meeting in 1996.

Previous XI

Slovakia vs Spain - Football tactics and formations
Slovakia: Dubravka, Pekarik, Satka, Skriniar, Hubocan, Koscelnik, Duda, Hrosovsky, Hamsik, Kucka, Mak.

Spain: Simon, P Torres, Llorente, Alba, Laporte, Koke, Rodri, Pedri, Morata, Moreno, Olmo.

Key battles

Moreno’s penalty miss and Morata putting the rebound wide summed up Spain’s tournament in front of goal so far, with only one goal to show for all the chances they have created.

Spain to win and Moreno to have at least two shots on target can be backed at 17/20 while Morata is the 13/5 favourite to open the scoring.

Being more ruthless will be vital but Spain at least look solid in defence and will be confident of containing a limited Slovakia attack, with star man Marek Hamsik having so far made little impact.
