Preview and odds for Monday’s match

Spain are no longer the dominant force in world football but cannot be written off in the outright betting ahead of their opening Group E game against Sweden.

Home advantage in Seville means La Roja will be widely fancied to make a winning start but Sweden are always a well-organised team.

Monday’s match is live on BBC One and kicks off at 8pm as we highlight a few potential Spain v Sweden betting tips.

Spain v Sweden match odds

Spain were unbeaten in qualifying when they were placed in the same group as Sweden and are 8/1 to claim a third European title in four tournaments.

The 2008 and 2012 champions have Luis Enrique in charge of a young squad which is without any Real Madrid players but they proved with November’s 6-0 thrashing of Germany how dangerous they can be.

Spain are 2/5 to pick up three points but have been held to a draw in six of their last 13 matches and 10/3 is on offer for another draw here while Sweden are 15/2 for a victory which would throw Group E wide open.

The Scandinavians have won six of their last seven games, although most of those have been against limited opposition, while their defeat was a 4-2 loss against world champions France.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been due to be part of the squad but is injured so scoring goals may be an issue and a Spain win to nil can be backed at 21/20 while Spain are 23/20 to be leading at both half-time and full-time.

Spain v Sweden head-to-head

Spain took four points off Sweden in qualifying but did not have things all their own way in either game.

They had to wait for over an hour to break the deadlock in the home game before a Sergio Ramos penalty put them ahead. Alvaro Morata also scored from the spot late on and Mikel Oyarzabal completed a 3-0 victory.

Sweden almost gained revenge in the rematch after Marcus Berg put them in front early in the second half but Rodrigo equalised in stoppage time.

Sweden’s last win against Spain was a 2-0 victory in qualifying for Euro 2008 but Spain made amends at the finals with a 2-1 win.

Previous XI

Spain vs Sweden - Football tactics and formations
Spain: Fernandez, Mingueza, Guillamon, Regano, Zubimendi, Villar, Cucurella, Garcia, Diaz, Ruiz, Gil.

Sweden: Olsen, Lustig, Lindelof, Bengtsson, Danielson, Larsson, Ekdal, Forsberg, Olsson, Kulusevski, Isak.

Key battles

The omission of Ramos was the biggest talking point when the Spain squad was announced but this could be the tournament when several of their young stars step up a level.

Ferran Torres is not often a first-choice forward at Manchester City but hit a hat-trick in Spain’s demolition of Germany while Morata is no stranger to the big occasions and Gerard Moreno will be full of confidence after helping Villarreal lift the Europa League.

Spain to win and Moreno to have two or more shots on target can be backed at 6/4 while Morata (10/3) and Torres (9/2) are obvious options in the first goalscorer odds.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof will be tasked with marshalling the Sweden defence.
