Preview and odds for Tuesday’s game

Manchester City look ready to step up their preparations for the Champions League final when they head to Brighton in their final away match of the Premier League campaign.

Pep Guardiola named Scott Carson in goal and rested several of his key players for Friday night’s 4-3 win at Newcastle but seems prepared to bring his big guns back.

Brighton are only one place above the relegation zone but safety is assured so they have nothing to lose in their last two matches of the season.

Tuesday’s match is live on BT Sport and kicks off at 7.00pm as we highlight a few potential Brighton v Manchester City betting tips.

Brighton v Manchester City match odds

Graham Potter, Brighton

Brighton have only managed three home wins this season and will have to defy the odds to claim a fourth on Tuesday when they are the 6/1 underdogs.

Graham Potter’s men have proved hard to beat, though, having drawn nine home matches – three more than any other team. Another draw here can be backed at 10/3 while Brighton are 8/5 to avoid defeat.

City have won 14 out of 18 on their travels and only conceded 12 goals despite shipping three at St James’ Park last week.

They have won 12 in a row on the road and are 1/2 to extend that winning run while a ninth away win to nil is 31/20.

Brighton v Manchester City head-to-head

Phil Foden scored the only goal as City secured a hard-fought 1-0 win in January’s meeting at the Etihad Stadium, making the breakthrough just before half-time with a superb low strike from the edge of the box.

It should have been more comfortable for the dominant hosts as Raheem Sterling missed a late penalty, Bernardo Silva hit the woodwork and Seagulls keeper Robert Sanchez made a number of outstanding saves.

Brighton were unable to capitalise on the reprieves and, even though they remained in the contest to the end, they rarely threatened and could not force an equaliser.

City have won all seven meetings since Brighton were promoted to the Premier League, winning last year’s two games by a combined score of 9-0. City to win and over 3.5 goals is available at 27/10 while the champions are 19/4 to score at least four goals.

Previous XI

Brighton vs Manchester City - Football tactics and formations
Brighton: Sanchez, White, Webster, Burn, Bissouma, Gross, Moder, Trossard, Jahanbakhsh, Alzate, Welbeck.

Manchester City: Carson, Walker, Ake, Cancelo, Garcia, Gundogan, Rodri, Silva, Sterling, Jesus, Torres.

Team news

Skipper Lewis Dunk and forward Neal Maupay remain suspended for Brighton while Dunk’s fellow defender Joel Veltman, who has been recovering from a calf issue, is also set to be absent again.

Kevin De Bruyne could return for City after missing the last two games with a muscle injury. The Belgian playmaker is back in training, leaving Sergio Aguero as the only known absentee for the visit to the south coast.

Key battles

Brighton’s defence had no answer to Sterling in this fixture last season as he netted a hat-trick and he will hope for a similar performance if he features as he looks to force his way into the team for the Champions League final.

Sterling is 9/5 to be on the scoresheet again while Foden is 5/1 to open the scoring, just as he did in January.

Brighton have played well in general but too often lacked a cutting edge in front of goal, as was the case again in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Ham.

Former Manchester United man Danny Welbeck would love to score against City, though, and is 14/5 to do so.
