Who will win the Prem this year?
The excitement is beginning to build ahead of the start of the new Premier League season, with one team, in particular, proving very popular in the betting.
Amid strong support in the market, the Coral traders have been forced to trim Liverpool’s odds of a first top-flight title since 1990 into just 4/1 (from 9/2).
They remain behind 8/11 favourites Manchester City, but ahead of arch-rivals Manchester United, who have been pushed out to 7/1.
“Manchester City remain the favourites but a lot of the early money is going on Liverpool, with punters clearly impressed with Klopp’s transfer dealings so far. It is notoriously hard to retain the title and that is perhaps another factor in people’s betting,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
Betting without the big six has also proved popular during the close season, with new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers attracting support at just 9/2. Only Everton (5/2) are shorter than Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, with Leicester City and West Ham United considered next best at 5/1 apiece.
Meanwhile, Harry Kane is the 11/4 favourite for the Golden Boot ahead of Mohamed Salah (5/1), Romelu Lukaku and Sergio Aguero (both 6/1).
“Kane romped to the Golden Boot at the World Cup which was very lucrative for punters over the summer. They’re backing him again to repeat the trick and he’s the favourite ahead of Salah despite the Egyptian’s wonderful form last season,” added Aitkenhead.
