Preview and odds for Wednesday’s Premier League match

Tottenham’s hopes of qualifying for Europe are back in their own hands and they can keep it that way by beating Aston Villa.

Spurs start the penultimate round of matches in sixth place and with a vastly superior goal difference to West Ham, who they are level with on 59 points, so two more wins will secure a Europa League place, although a Champions League spot was their main aim.

Wednesday’s match is live on Sky Sports and kicks off at 6.00pm as we highlight a few potential Tottenham v Aston Villa betting tips.

Tottenham v Aston Villa match odds

Spurs were hoping for big things this campaign and topped the Premier League before Christmas and also reached the Carabao Cup final.

The best they can now hope for is a Europa League place and reports that Harry Kane wants to leave mean it could be a depressing summer for their fans.

They have at least won their last three home matches and are 8/15 to extend that run here or 19/10 to win to nil, as they have done against Sheffield United (4-0) and Wolves (2-0) recently.

Aston Villa look set to finish in the bottom half of the table after a disappointing second half of the campaign.

They took the lead against Manchester United and Crystal Palace, either side of a goalless draw with Everton, but lost both of those games and are 7/1 to again waste a lead.

Dean Smith’s men can be backed at 24/5 for only a second win in eight matches while the draw is 17/5 and Villa are 6/4 to avoid defeat.

Tottenham v Aston Villa head-to-head

Dean Smith - Aston Villa

Spurs have dominated Villa in recent times, winning the last six meetings in league and cup.

The last of those was in March just a few days after Jose Mourinho’s men had been knocked out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb.

Spurs bounced back from that humiliation with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Carlos Vinicius and Harry Kane.

It was the first time Kane and Vinicius started together and they both delivered, the Benfica loanee scoring his first Premier League goal in the first half and Kane adding a second-half penalty.

Previous XI

Tottenham vs Aston Villa - Football tactics and formations
Tottenham: Lloris, Reguilon, Alderweireld, Tanganga, Hojbjerg, Dier, Lo Celso, Alli, Son, Bale, Kane.

Aston Villa: Martinez, Konsa, Targett, Elmohamady, Hause, Luiz, McGinn, Traore, El Ghazi, Ramsey, Watkins.

Team news

Gareth Bale (fatigue) is a doubt for Tottenham and Ben Davies (calf) is out injured but Serge Aurier is back in training following a groin injury.

Tyrone Mings’ knee injury will be assessed after he missed Villa’s defeat at Palace. Midfielder Morgan Sanson will sit out the final two games of the season after suffering a reoccurrence of his knee problem.

Key battles

Winning the Golden Boot can only help Kane’s chances of landing the big-money move he is reported to be craving and he goes into the final week of the season level with Mo Salah.

The England captain has scored seven goals in his last seven league games against Villa, including a late double in this fixture last season, and Coral have various bets available.

Kane is 17/4 to score anytime and have an assist, 5/1 to score in both halves or, for a bigger price, how about 45/1 for Kane to be the first and last goalscorer as well as have an assist?!

Villa’s best hope of stamping their authority on the game is Jack Grealish, who has come off the bench in the second half of the last two matches.
