Our Matchday Squad journalist will be covering Poland throughout Euro 2020

The atmosphere around the Polish camp before their match against Slovakia is far from ideal.

First of all, Poland lost a very important player when Arkadiusz Milik got injured and was ruled out of the whole tournament. The Marseille striker was in very good form and was tipped to provide strong support to Robert Lewandowski in the Polish attack. Now Poland will depend on their best player even more.

Poland didn’t impress in their final preparation game before the Euros against Iceland (2-2). We expected a comfortable win, but it ended in a lucky draw thanks to a goal scored two minutes from time. Poland didn’t create too many chances, but we are worried about our defence even more.

In five games under Paulo Sousa, Poland conceded eight goals and had only one clean sheet. Poland will probably play a 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-1-2 system, but it’s hard to guess who will play, because the manager is still looking for his best eleven.

The game against Slovakia is seen in Poland as a must win match if we want to think about getting out of the group, because Slovakia, theoretically, are the worst team in the group.
