Horse Racing Trader’s Tips: Longchamp – Thursday 14th May

Our trader previews the best of the action in Paris

French racing continues to pick up from where it left off and Thursday’s feature meeting comes from Longchamp.

And ahead of a thrilling 10-race card, our expert Matt Trounce has picked out who to keep an eye on.

Following the trials for the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas earlier this week, all eyes will be on the two group races at Longchamp on Thursday as the middle-distance horses strut their stuff.

Prix La Force

The Prix La Force at 10:40 is an opportunity for colts and geldings to prove their worth over 9f ahead of the Prix Du Jockey, which is the French Derby. Meanwhile at 11:10, fillies will run the same course and distance in the Prix Vanteaux, which generally sets the market for the Prix Diana (French Oaks).

Andre Fabre has trained eight previous winners of the Prix La Force and he sends out Ocean Atlantique, who won his maiden by eight lengths last time out. A win could put him in contention for the Epsom Derby.

But he’ll face stiff competition from Another Sky who is stepped up to Group 3 company after winning on all-weather last time out. He has strong connections and is the half-brother of the 2016 French Derby winner Almanzor.

Prix Vanteaux

There are nine runners taking part in the Prix Vanteaux, with Emoji and Flighty Lady expected to lead the way. Emoji comfortably won a listed race on debut and her fitness could be a big advantage on testing ground.

Flighty Lady won once before picking up some blacktype by finishing third in both a Group 3 and Group 1 at the end of last season. She’s since switched trainers to Jean-Claude Rouget and she should give Emoji plenty to think about.

The action gets underway from 10:10 (UK time) and we’ll be offering an extra place if at least 16 go to post in the 12:50, 13:25, 14:00, 14:35 and the 15:10.
