Our guide to this week’s sporting fixtures
We’re at the business end of the festive season and the sport is continuing to come thick and fast.
The Premier League continues tonight, before returning on Boxing Day, the World Darts Championship rolls on and we have some huge racing meetings – along with a smorgasbord of US sports to enjoy.
Here are some of this week’s sporting highlights…
We have two more Premier League games tonight, with Burnley v Wolves and Chelsea v West Ham.
The action then resumes on Boxing Day with every team playing across the weekend – with clashes including Leicester City v Man United and Arsenal v Chelsea promising plenty of fireworks.
The Carabao Cup Quarter Finals also play out this week, starting with Brentford v Newcastle and Arsenal v Man City tomorrow, followed by Stoke v Tottenham and Everton v Man Utd on Wednesday.
Boxing Day is one of the highlights of the National Hunt season calendar, with three Grade 1 races from Kempton – including the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase, where Clan des Obeaux will be seeking a hattrick of wins.
That’s followed by Desert Orchid Chase Day at Kempton, with six more races to enjoy across the day.
Sunday also plays host to the Coral Welsh Grand National at Chepstow – can Secret Reprieve claim a win on home soil and join the likes of Native River on the winner’s roll of honour?
The PDC World Championship Darts continue tonight, as Gerwyn Price takes on Jamie Lewis in a round two tie. Action continues through ’til Wednesday, before a brief hiatus until Boxing Day – as the third round begins.
There are still plenty of big names to play, with Price, Gary Anderson and Nathan Aspinall seeking to join the likes of Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright in the next stage of the competition.
Wednesday morning is the opener of the new NBA season with a traditional double-header to start things off. First, you can catch Nets v Warriors at midnight, followed by a Los Angeles derby – as Lakers take on Clippers from 03:00.
After that, it’s NBA all the way, with matches every day.
Bengals and Steelers face off tomorrow night in an AFC North clash. Has the Steelers invincible aura been pierced following two straight defeats? If so then a match-up against Bengals may be just what they need – the Cincinnati side are on a five game losing streak of their own.
Week 16 kicks off on 25th December with Saints v Vikings, followed by a huge weekend, as teams try to tie up their playoff places. With every team in action from Saturday – Tuesday.
Premiership Rugby makes a Boxing Day return after a 20-day break, as high-flying Exeter take on Gloucester and Newcastle take on Leicester, while Bristol and Harlequins also face-off. Six games in total means every team will play on the day.
