Preview and odds for the round-of-16 match

The Dutch were the top scorers in the group stage of Euro 2020 and the goals could flow again as we pick out some Netherlands v Czech Republic betting tips.

Eight goals in three matches shows the Dutch have plenty of firepower but the Czechs will be out to cause an upset after qualifying comfortably from Group D.

Sunday’s match, which is live on ITV and kicks off at 5pm, is being held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

Netherlands v Czech Republic match odds

Netherlands may not have had the hardest of Euro 2020 groups but they took full advantage as they eased through with three wins out of three.

They had a shaky start when they threw away a two-goal lead against Ukraine before Denzel Dumfries ensured no damage was done with an 85th-minute winner.

A better defensive performance followed in a 2-0 victory over Austria before a 3-0 win against North Macedonia meant the Dutch can head into the knockout stage full of confidence.

The draw continues to be kind to them and they are 1/3 favourites to get past the Czech Republic and will also be expected to beat the winners of Wales v Denmark in the quarter-finals.

Netherlands are 7/10 to win in 90 minutes while a win and over 2.5 goals for the fourth time at the Euros is 33/20.

The Czech Republic are 11/5 to cause an upset and 21/5 to win in normal time but proved they can be a threat after beating Scotland 2-0 and then holding Croatia to a 1-1 draw.

Qualification for the knockout stage was already assured before a 1-0 defeat against England at Wembley and head coach Jaroslav Silhavy remained positive.

“We qualified with a game to spare and competed against England for first place,” he said. “We have to look at it positively – we achieved what we wanted.”

The match is 14/5 to go to extra time when the Dutch are 7/1 to take control or the Czech Republic can be backed at 20/1 to win it in the extra 30 minutes.

Netherlands are 15/8 to win to nil for a third successive game and 7/4 to be leading at both half-time and full-time.

Netherlands v Czech Republic head-to-head

These two teams are meeting for the first time since qualifying for Euro 2016 when the Czech Republic did the double over the Dutch on their way to topping the group while Netherlands missed out on the finals after only finishing fourth.

The Czechs won 2-1 at home in the first meeting thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Vaclav Pilar and they were 3-2 winners in a thrilling return game.

They were 2-0 up at half-time despite having Marek Suchy sent off just before the break and a Robin van Persie own goal made it 3-0, leaving the Dutch with too much to do despite two late strikes giving them hope.

A third successive Czech win and both teams to score is available at 15/2 while over 2.5 goals is an option for Netherlands v Czech Republic betting tips at 5/6.

Previous XI

Czech Republic: Vaclik, Celustka, Coufal, Kalas, Holes, Boril, Darida, Masopust, Jankto, Soucek, Schick.

Key battles

Both teams have a player who scored three goals during the group stage and they are among the leading contenders in terms of Euro 2020 top goalscorer tips heading into the round of 16.

Patrik Schick was the hero at Hampden in the victory over Scotland and converted a penalty against Croatia so will be the main threat to a Dutch defence which is not short on experience.

Schick is 14/5 to be on target again but Netherlands look to have more attacking options, with Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay scoring five goals between them.

Memphis has scored twice already and the Dutch penalty taker is 8/5 to have at least two shots on target in a Netherlands win.

Wijnaldum causes problems with his late runs into the box and has three goals while wing-back Dumfries catches the eye at 5/1 to add to the two goals he has scored.
