Captain Tom Moore odds-on for New Year’s Honours Recognition

| 16.04.2020

99-year-old war veteran has raised over £12 million for NHS Charities

Captain Tom Moore has been made odds-on at 1/2 to be honoured by the Queen in the New Year’s Honours List.

The 99-year-old has raised over £12 million for NHS Charities Together during the coronavirus pandemic from walking 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden, with the figure still rising.

Captain Tom began raising funds to thank the NHS for helping him through his treatment for cancer and a broken hip, and has already gained the recognition of the nation, including the UK Government, after Chancellor Rishi Sunak said what had been done was “extraordinary”, adding it “showed that the British spirit was as strong as it’s ever been.”

In Wednesday’s Government briefing, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock heaped praise on Captain Tom too, calling the war veteran “an inspiration” in a special tribute.

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “It’s been a truly amazing story and after he completed his herculean effort, we think Captain Tom is odds on for a date with the Queen in the future and further honours beckon.”
