We take a trip down memory lane ahead of this week’s event at Augusta

The Masters gets underway this week in the first ever Autumn edition of the competition – and we’re feeling nostalgic ahead of the action.

Tiger Woods stunned the sporting world last year as he ended his 11-year wait for his 15th Major Championship.

But was it the best Masters moment of the last decade?

We’ve taken a look at four of our favourites since 2010 and it’s up to you to decide which one will come out on top.

Tiger Woods’ sensational comeback – 2019

What better place to start? Woods is undoubtedly one of the greatest golfers in history having burst onto the scene by winning the Masters in 1997.

What followed was a near-dominance over the sport, winning a further 13 majors up to 2008. But a series of off-field issues saw the American’s form suffer and his hopes of clinching a 15th Major looked to be a distant memory.

However, after trailing to Francesco Molinari for much of the competition, Woods found his groove on the 15th during the final threesome.

And after edging ahead, he only needed a bogey on the final hole to claim the green jacket. In typical fashion, he chipped and two-putted to finish two under par and complete a remarkable comeback.

Sergio Garcia finally gets his win – 2017

Sergio Garcia

The phrase ‘always the bridesmaid, never the bride’ often use to come to mind when discussing Sergio Garcia. Up until 2017, the Spaniard had attempted to win a Major 73 times but had never managed to go all the way.

Despite 22 top-10 finishes, Garcia somehow always fell at the final hurdle. But three years ago, his luck finally changed.

A thrilling final day pairing with Justin Rose saw them exchange the lead numerous times before they finally finished level on -9, forcing a play-off.

And after Rose miscued his tee shot, Garcia held his nerve to finally etch his name in Major Championship history.

Jordan Spieth, new kid on the block – 2015

Much like Woods in 1997, Spieth announced himself on the world stage in 2015 as he won the Masters at just 21 years old.

Spieth was sensational the year before as he narrowly missed out on the green jacket by finishing second.

But the American made no mistake a year later, coming out of the blocks with a -8 in the first round before maintaining his lead throughout to finish on top.

Spieth ended the competition with a score of -18, the same that a young Woods had achieved 18 years before.

Bubba Watson’s play-off heroics – 2012

Like Garcia, Watson’s maiden Masters title came as a result of a nail-biting play-off after the American tied at -10 with Louis Oosthuizen.

After both making par on the 18th, the pair headed for the 10th hole and Watson’s tee-shot landed deep in the woods, with no clear route to the green.

However, he almost defied physics by bending a shot to within nine feet of the hole. His opponent’s putt missed the target, allowing Watson to take two shots to end the play-off and claim an historic win.
