Sports Round-up: Our trader looks at Saturday’s action

We’ve got AFL, NRL and chess on the menu

Our daily dose of sport take us far and wide on Saturday.

Luckily, our senior trader Andrew Wildig has the lowdown on what to look out for across rugby, Aussie Rules and chess.

3:10: Essendon Bombers v Fremantle Dockers (AFL) – Live on BT Sport 3

Both these teams showed promise last year. Fremantle had a strong start to the season as they sat second after six rounds but fell away to finish the season in thirteenth.

Essendon on the other hand started slowly but crept into the top eight to make the play-offs in round 18. Both teams will look to start this season on the front foot.

4:00: New Zealand Warriors v Canberra Raiders (NRL)

New Zealand Warriors, who are currently based in Australia in order to play their matches, start this match as underdogs at 3/1.

And the Warriors will also have to make do without New Zealand international Peta Hiku against what is expected to be an unchanged Raiders’ side.

6:05: Adelaide Crows v Sydney Swans (AFL)

Adelaide will be hoping for a return to their 2017 form that saw them win their second minor premiership.

Sydney, meanwhile, will be keen avoid a repeat of last season which saw them sit last after seven rounds with only one win.

Both sides missed the play-offs last year and Adelaide start as the favs here.

6:30: Sydney Roosters v Manly Sea Eagle (NRL) – Live on Sky Sports Arena and Main Event

Sydney will look for a better showing than last week when they lost to Penrith when they host the Sea Eagles.

The Roosters have lost the retired Cooper Cronk and Latrell Mitchell who joined South Sydney but will look to inflict more pain on Manly who lost 18-4 to Melbourne last week.

8:35: Cronulla Sharks v Melbourne Storm (NRL) – Live on Sky Sports Action

Regular season winners Melbourne looked good in a 18-4 demolition of Manly last time out.

Cronulla were edged out by the Rabbitohs after staging a second half fightback and it could be another tough game behind closed doors at the Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

8:40 Gold Coast Suns v Port Adelaide Power (AFL)

Gold Coast ended up bottom last season and start as underdogs in their first home match this campaign against the Power.

Port Adelaide narrowly missed the finals last year and their fans will be expecting a win in the Gold Coast.

8:40 GWS Giants v Geelong Cats (AFL) – BT Sport ESPN

Making amends will be on the mind of the Geelong Cats after last season.

Leading the competition for all but two weeks, they’ll no doubt look to go better and win a premiership this year.

However, the Cats start as underdogs here as they travel to Sydney to play the Grand Final runners in the Australian prime time game.

11:00 Candidates Chess Tournament

The Candidates Chess Championship continues as players battle it out to be the one to take on Magnus Carlson for the world title.

Ian Nepomniachtchi (4/1), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (6/1), and Wang Hao (6/1) are tied for the lead after three rounds.

Fabiano Caruana, who is currently tied for fourth, remains overall favourite at 7/4.
