Coral reveals detailed plan to safely re-open shops

Most Coral shops will re-open with social distancing measures on 15th June

Coral has unveiled its comprehensive plan to safely reopen most of its betting shops on Monday 15th June.

Following government guidelines, all Coral betting shops in England and the Republic of Ireland will open their doors again from Monday. The remainder of the Coral shop estate will open as the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland ease their lockdown restrictions.

Coral’s priority is to ensure the health and wellbeing of all colleagues and customers when shop doors are open again. Social distancing and safety measures will be introduced, while new protective equipment has been installed in-shop and provided to shop staff. These new measures have been designed to meet or exceed the guidelines provided by the UK government and the World Health Organisation.

The key points of the plan are described below. There is detailed guidance to go along with each element, while additional equipment and training will be provided where required.

1. Pre shop-opening checks

– Property maintenance checks.

– Facilities, screens, bet stations, gaming machines and till systems all to be cleaned.

– Review of security hardware in shops.

2. Tools to support social distancing

– Additional equipment has been installed, including ‘sneeze screens’ and protective barriers between gaming machines and bet stations, which help to ensure social distancing by acting as a physical barrier between colleagues and customers to ensure social distancing.

– New customer signage and floor markings have been installed to provide clear direction on social distancing in-shop.

– All colleagues will undergo a compulsory social distancing training module.

3. Health and safety provisions

– Customers will be supplied with stylus pens to use on using bet stations and gaming machines, to avoid having to physically touch screens.

– Provision of additional hand sanitiser stations, hand wash and cleaning products to promote and maintain good hygiene standards.

– Provision of colleague comfort measures such as face masks, protective shields and disposable gloves.

– Enhanced colleague cleaning routines will be introduced, covering both the customer and colleague areas.

4. Shop operation guidance

– There will be clear guidance on maximum customer occupancy levels to support safe social distancing, based on the size and layout of each shop.

– Guidance will be provided procedures for on customer entry/exit management.

– Contactless payments will be encouraged, with guidance on bet placement and payment processes provided.

5. Colleague wellbeing

– Dividing partitions have been installed between till positions to act as a physical barrier between colleagues and ensure social distancing.

– Restrictions on transfer of personnel between multiple shops to reduce potential exposure.

– Provision of a third-party app “Unmind” to promote mental wellbeing.

– Video and printed training materials will be supplied.

– Employee Assistance Programme made available to all colleagues and their families.

– Open and honest communication channels with all colleagues.

6. Safer gambling

– Increased monitoring of customer behaviour and wellbeing, to identify potentially vulnerable customers and ensure they are playing within their financial means.

– Guidance on interactions with vulnerable customers whilst social distancing.

– Review of self-exclusion lists.
